Auchterarder House has recently been sensitively and carefully restored, over a period of 18 months, to become one of the most luxurious houses to rent in the Scottish Highlands. As one of the most comfortable private homes in Scotland, it is now opening it’s doors for the first time in it’s history, as a private house to rent for exclusive use.
Set in 20 acres of beautifully kept gardens, including a lochan (Scottish for small lake), this Scottish Highlands mansion enjoys stunning views over the Grampian mountains to the west and the Cairngorms to the north as it sits in the very centre of Scotland – a very peaceful and private spot. Auchterader House has the benefit of being just 5 minutes’ drive from Gleneagles Hotel with its famous golf courses, health spa and Andrew Fairlie’s highly respected 2-star Michelin restaurant along with the many other activities they have on offer.
Auchterarder House has a rich history dating back to 1832 when it was built by Scottish architect, William Burn, for Lt-Col. James Hunter. Designed for entertaining, it is a Scottish Highland manor house that welcomes its guests with warmth and enormous comfort. Perfect for house parties of all ages with a host of activities available in the grounds as well as others to be found locally, there is something for everyone which makes it an ideal Scottish Highlands house rental.

Centuries ago, the ancient Royal Burgh of Auchterarder was strategically positioned on the road from the Royal residence at Scone, near Perth, to Stirling Castle. During the battle of Sherrifmuir, the Earl of Mar’s rebel army burned the old village to the ground and today that battleground lies just a short distance from Auchterarder House.
We had no idea Scottish baronial homes were so comfortable and the master suite is far grander than any hotel. We even caught a fish in the lochan right in front of the house. What fun. Thank you for such a spoiling time.
